As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart. The writing style bothers me immensely. It feels juvenile, especially because we are forced to sift through the Asha's every. Last. Thought. And they're the same thoughts over and over again. She loves her sister and is /so/ self sacrificing for saving her. The king is a murderous villain. Az never loved her. Dinah is the bestest, kindest sister. The king burned his wife alive and she hates him. Az would make out with her if she wasn't ugly. Over and over, alongside paragraphs of unnecessary details that add nothing to the story. I felt like I was reading through the eyes of middle- school girl rather than an almost grown adult. I never felt drawn into the story because the writing style was so distracting. I could only read a few minutes at a time before giving up. Structurally, some of the chapter divisions are put in awkward places and messed with the flow of the story. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. The book delivered the tropes that I expected, one bed, he falls first, “who did this to you”, enemies to “lovers”, betrayal, slow burn, treason, martyrdom, and a few more. Commentaries tell us the “apples of gold” this verse mentions are not 24 karat apples, they’re real, edible apples, golden in color. And these lovely apples are presented in a “setting of silver,” a silver filigreed lattice-work basket – much like what you see in our A Word Fitly Spoken title graphic. This silver basket full of golden apples was ornamental, maybe even used as a centerpiece on a dining table. It seems people have been decorating with baskets of fruit even from the time of Solomon!

naturally, our FMC has a bit of magic inside her - a magic for storytelling, very similar to the magic that cornelia funke’s inkheart gifted us with in our youth - which comes in super handy for the whole 1001 nights retelling aspect. Proverbs 15:23 agrees that a word fitly spoken pleases both the speaker and listener: “A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word!” Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint. The 🌶️ factor is definitely a 0 in this book. I would put this in the category of YA rather than NA. But aside from that it’s a unique storyline with strong main and supporting characters. Amity pretty much saves the day. A Word so Fitly Spoken” is a modern masterpiece, a powerful novel that can be read on its own. This novel is written by T.A. Lawrence. She is a true storyteller, and A Word so Fitly Spoken is her best book. It’s an epic tale of family, secrets, loss, marriage, betrayal, friendships, laughter, and regrets. A Word so Fitly Spoken is a heartfelt novel written with compassion and hope, reconciling the past to pave a road to happiness and second chances. The characters in this novel bring life and heart to this story, each with a distinct voice and personality. They made reader love them, they made reader sad, they made reader angry, they made reader laugh, they made reader cry, and they made reader believe in the promise of love and home. nor with שׂכה, to pierce, infigere (Redslob, vid., under Psalm 73:7); it signifies medal or ornament, from שׂכה, to behold (cf. שׂכיּה, θέα equals θέαμα, Isaiah 2:6), here a vessel which is a delight to the eyes. In general the Venet. rightly, ἐνμορφώμασινἀργύρου; Symmachus and Theodotion, more in accordance with the fundamental idea, ἐνπεριβλέπτοιςἀργύρου; the Syr. and Targ. specially: in vessels of embossed work (נגוּדי, from נגד, to draw, to extend); yet more specially the lxx, ἐνὁρμίσκῳσαρδίου, on a chain of cornelian stone, for which, perhaps, ἐνφορμίσκῳ (Jger) ἀργυρίου, in a little silver basket, is the original phrase. Aquila, after Bereschith rabba c. 93, translates by μῆλαχρύσουἐνδίσκοιςἀργυφίου. Jerome: in lectis argenteis, appears to have fallen into the error of taking משב for משכב, lectus. Hitzig here emends a self-made ἅπαξλεγ. Luther's "golden apples in silver baskets" is to be preferred. This romance was far more believable and natural. Marcus was a fine hero, vulnerable, grouchy. But I didn’t understand his cloak? Where did it come from? What did it do? How did it work?!

The Romantic tension is THROUGH THE ROOF. My only *critique* is that I wish there would've been a few more moments where that was relieved... it just built and built...and built. 😅 But there was a couple moments that had me cheering for the MMC and his boldness 🔥there were enough twists and turns in this book that I really couldn’t call a lot of the plot twists. They really did come out of nowhere for me. That was definitely intriguing! The word fitly spoken comes from the right heart motivation, a heart consumed by love and faith. It is a word that meets the need of the day. It is a word that is carefully adjusted to the right force, the right emotion, and the right content. An adjective is selected for its appropriateness, and the verb is taken for its gentle persuasion. All of it must reflect the truth. No slander or pandering is allowed. At times, it could be a word of correction that directs itself to a particular sin that entangles a brother (verse 12). this book centers on asha, a mere human in a world ruled by fae who regard humans as little more than the trash under their feet, littering their cities and towns. the leader of these assholes? the fae king, kiran, who, after his beloved wife and her secret lover plot to kill him and take his throne, turns his jaded, scorned-man rage into a fervent, too-oft-repeated-belief that all ‘humans lie’. in revenge? he’ll select a human woman to sacrifice once a month…after marrying her. a man plotting to take his bad mood and hurt feelings out on innocent bystanders? what a surprise.

Really good! I enjoyed the story and it had a couple of good twists and surprises. I really liked the first book as well, but the story could have benefitted from a little more editing. The author's writing has definitely improved in this book and I am excited to continue with the series and keep reading her work! The apostle Paul taught that fitly spoken words—words that fit the occasion—build up those who hear them: “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear” (Ephesians 4:29, ESV). We can either tear people down with our words or let our conversation become a channel of grace and life as Jesus Christ did: “Everyone spoke well of him [Jesus] and was amazed by the gracious words that came from his lips” (Luke 4:22, NLT).Kidnapped as a child for her connection with the Old Magic—the one that grants her the ability to enchant others with her music—Piper knows good and well the rules of the Coup, the underground organization intent on bringing down the fae regime. As the Coup’s first “recruiter,” she’s supposed to take the strong, the good-boned, the clever, the healthy. The second book in the series gives us Piper’s story. We meet her toward the end of AWSFS and she is gifted like Asha. Piper, being half-fae and gifted, is abandoned by her family and left to die. When Bronger finds her, he raises her, then begins to manipulate her and her gift, to build an army of stolen children, an army to take down the fae king. She feels she is saving these children from a life of harm and hunger. But in reality they are taken from one dangerous situation to another. Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges 11. fitly] Lit. upon its wheels, i.e. smoothly and without hesitation. A man has joy in giving an appropriate answer, And how good and delightful is a word spoken at the right moment—how good it is! Asha annoyed me so much! She spends the first half of the book being angry by how the King treats his subjects and how he doesn’t help them, and he has all the power. But when she is in this position of power to help then she does absolutely nothing and just sits in the library, all day, moping and reading books.
