At 60fps the results are impressively sharp and contrasty, with well saturated colour. Video can be a little choppy if you hand-hold, which is a result of the low frame-rate (particularly noticeable on camera pans) and the fact that Yi 4K+'s electronic image stabilisation only applies to 4K/30fps and below. Still, that's something for the follow-up from Yi, and besides, image stabilisation can be overdone (see the Sony FDR-X3000R review for proof of that). Many people use action cameras to capture footage of their adventurous pursuits, such as mountain biking, skydiving or snowboarding. The best action cams are also waterproof, so some outdoor enthusiasts employ them to shoot watersports or record underwater video while swimming or diving. Most action cams come with a range of mounts, which make it easy to attach them to your helmet, handlebars or even a strap which wraps around your chest. So you should always be able to find an attachment that suits.

The extra real estate offered by the 2.19-inch screen does make onscreen menus easy to navigate. It’s also reasonably sharp. It offers readouts on the shooting mode it's in – video or photos, with an indicator of the resolution, too – as well as an icon for the remaining battery charge. Along the top, sandwiched between two microphones, is a single button that both switches-on the YI 4K Action Cam, and activates and deactivates recording. It’d have been nice if the charging port cover felt a little more sealed, but it doesn’t advertise as waterproof without the case.

Our Verdict

GoPro's most expensive action camera uses two fisheye lenses to shoot spherical 5.6K video, which you can later crop into standard 2D video using OverCapture software. In our review, we found that the six-microphone setup records excellent audio, if not quite up to the level of GoPro's 'shotgun mic' claims.

The Ultimate Xiaomi Mi Action Camera 4K Review!

If you are planning to use the Xiaomi Mi 4K for action sports, especially fast-paced or vibration intense action sports then the v50 Pro or Trawo are definatley better options. Their native 4k is much better than the digitally upscaled 4k from the Xiaomi Mi 4K and results in smoother high-resolution video clips that are free from hand and drag while capturing all of the action. Xiaomi never ceases to amaze me. I mean, I review their products for a living and I know what to expect from them. I know it’s about low quality and high features. But they do it time and time again with numerous devices. The future’s bright… the future’s orange 360… with the new Xiaomi MiJia Dual-lens Action Cam. If you’ve ever thought about diving into the world of 360 yourself, then there’s another option on the table from the all might Chinese brand Xiaomi.

Action cameras are among the toughest cameras around, so we properly put them through their paces to make sure they live up to their rugged billing – and can shoot excellent video and stills, too. Best pizza oven 2023: top outdoor and indoor pizza ovens for your patio, garden, balcony or kitchen With a summer of capturing awesome 360 footage from the Xiaomi MiJia 360 Action Cam behind me, I’m super excited to try out the new Xiaomi MiJia Mini 4K Action Camera. Most importantly, this Mi action camera comes with cool features like time-lapse, slow motion, loop record and burst. Here’s are some of its Photo specs: Next up in our best budget action camera ranking is something a bit different: the Akaso Keychain is a tiny, 36g, 4K camera that can go everywhere with you. While GoPro might love wide-angle footage, the Keychain has a narrow field of view, which is actually much more helpful if you want to film something specific. Not only is this cheap action cam dinky, it's also magnetic, which means you can attach it to anything from your bike to your gym weights (and you can stash it on your fridge door when not in use).Rather than messing around with the fiddly Micro-SD card you can export all your footage to your phone via the Mi Home App. DJI did have an interesting experiment with modular design, now seemingly abandoned, with the Action 2, but they do retain powerful magnetic mounts which can even partially survive the heat of an oven (we tried accidentally – see our full review). Overall, I found installing the software cumbersome but, once installed, easy and intuitive to use. There is a manual, and the options on the live feed to change the filming style are straight forward. What’s promising is that Xiaomi are providing lots of updates the camera firmware and also the app.

The MiJia 3.5K Action Camera from Xiaomi is a fantastic option for anyone looking to venture into consumer 360 technology. The 360 Photo mode alone makes it a must-have for any travellers as it’s certainly the most immersive way to capture that special moment. During testing, I’ve had several firmware updates each time I connected to the app. Xiaomi are known for their continued product support. All the same, the Insta360 One R produces some of the best stills and video you can get from an action camera. Its 1-inch sensor also handles the crop of image stabilization better than most. A flexible 5K camera with solid low-light skills, the Insta360 One R is one of the best action cams around. The modular system is strong and has immense gadget value (though can get a bit hot when charging), while DJI’s Mimo app makes control via your phone painless. It's a bit sad that DJI's more recent Action 3 (also in this list) adopted a more traditional GoPro-like shape. But if you're happy with this 4K device, there is an interesting world of accessories (as well as adaptors for the traditional ‘GoPro’ style devices), making this a hard option to overlook, especially where a small subscription-free camera is the goal. The main competition for the Xiaomi MiJia 360 is from Samsung, in the form of the Gear 360. I’ve a separate article to pitting the two 360 cameras head-to-head battle which you can find here. – Xiaomi 360 Action Cam Vs Samsung Gear 360 Vs Gear 360 (2017) – Coming soon.As well as producing JPEGs, the Yi 4K+ records raw images at DNG files. However, shooting in raw does require a little patience, with an approx. 10-seconds wait between each shot. It also doesn't produce the cleanest raw photo you'll ever see, but they're good enough to produce some much better-looking results through Photoshop. Not convinced? Try these There is a charging port is located at the side with a sliding cover. This cover makes it safe even if you decide to take deep dive shots. The only unfortunate thing is that it doesn’t have a type-c USB support which is kinda irritating in this day and age.
