Cordelia knows how crucial the work is – her father is missing at sea, presumed dead, and she doesn’t want any other young people to feel the same grief. Cordelia's father is on a journey to find the ingredients to make the hats when his ship goes down in a storm - and he is lost. She headlined at women's events, parenting and adoption conferences, and participated in a variety of social service ministries such as the Legacy Collective which has been active in Texas hurricane recovery. When Cordelia's father Prospero and his ship, the Jolly Bonnet, are lost at sea during a mission to collect hat ingredients, Cordelia is determined to find him.

But Cordelia is not one to meekly sit back and watch things go wrong… she has ideas and, maybe, magic of her own, after all. On a recommendation from a friend, Jill approached SilverWood Books and was immediately struck by Helen's professional attitude and enthusiasm. It has all the ingredients for an appealing ‘middle grade’ story and is sure to get children reading.I loved the various twists in the story and the excitement that is produced from certain moments throughout (scenes of which I will not spoil). I think it would appeal to a lot of children - it’s a fast paced adventure with enough peril, but not too scary and a magical world with consistent rules that are easy to make sense off. The English brand has been around since the 1930s and has enjoyed periodic surges in popularity… usually followed by quite a long stint of being considered inherently uncool. And when you’re detached from an organization, you don’t have the same support structure to nurture and feed you.

Cordelia Hatmaker is part of a family of magical hatmakers in this alternate history set in a magical mash-up of Georgian and Elizabethan Britain. The magical ingredients and their properties and uses were delightful and unexpected, and I definitely enjoyed the footnotes/glossary explaining them when they appeared. The princess was also a fabulous character and though she didn't appear throughout most of the book, she was still well established and you could understand her motivations. Cordelia Hatmaker’s family have been making magical hats by Royal Appointment for generations, weaving emotions and states of mind in with the carefully chosen feathers and furbelows. Cordelia Hatmaker, newly orphaned – or so the grown ups tell her – lives with her extended family and is learning how to make hats. This was a total cover request but it was one that served me well because this book was absolutely delightful and adorable.

Religion News Service recently covered the Hatmaker-headlined Belong tour (a new iteration of Women of Faith) and there’s also the livestreamed IF: Gathering, Q Women, Women of Joy, Declare, Rooted, and many more. The Hatmakers is an inventive and funny story with a cast of unforgettable characters who adults and children alike will love. And when you’ve been dominating the headwear industry since 1676, you pick up a trick or two along the way. Characters are superbly drawn and this will have children eager to read the next adventures of Cordelia, Sam and Goose - I look forward to it too! New Era is probably best known for its fitted, flat peak cap model, the 59Fifty, which has long been a common sight both on the diamond and off.

Cordelia is plucky and determined, her secret friend Goose discovers bravery, and Sam definitely steals the show. Titles by Bible teachers Lysa Terkeurst, Priscilla Shirer, and Beth Moore regularly outsell new releases from pastors such as Max Lucado and T.
