It depends on the brand of mat, but for Chessex the dry erase marker will be absorbed into the fabric fairly quickly. I have been able to leave my drawings on my battlematts for 2 weeks and they came off with no problem. That’s what I got and the only imperfection is a heavy stitch near the edge of the map on one side, that runs for about 4 inches.Likewise, a 2:1 or 1:1 light square grid fencing, or taught chain-link (which when taut and not sagging, is usually a square grid with odd corners) can make a good quick grid. Lay down your gridded paper on the contact paper so they make a battlemat of what ever size you desire. As it stands, they are still very good, but the concern over markings is why I stick with counters and terrain markers. Das einzige was ich bemängeln könnte wäre, das ich eigentlich ein Schwarzen W 100 % bestellt hatte und einen W10 bekommen habe aber das ist nicht schlimm.

I've been using Expo for a while, but still have some ghosting issues when I let the board sit too long between deep cleanings or let it air dry because I feel lazy that day. It will save you a large amount of time when you have a fairly good idea of where players are likely to go in terms of locations. I've found the most important thing is to clean the map after use - leaving it a week or two for the next game session is sure to leave marks. As for the curling, I either put stuff on the corners or simply lay it facedown for an hour before the game and most of the curling disappears.I also wonder if it would help to unroll it for a couple hours before you game and then roll it up to travel and then unroll it again as soon as you get to your destination. When I roll mine up its about 5 inches wide with a lot of space in the middle and unrolls perfectly. I must say the size is nice, but since I've gotten a pazio mat I don't use it much anymore, it is a pain to transport (Mail tube and old cubscout blanket holder works though) and I have to worry about markers. I have also used a small dry erase board to show a general layout on a smaller scale when miniatures were not required at all.

Skeleton Key and other designers have TONS of files of various indoor and underground settings that can likewise be printed, and this gives the advantage of being able to recombine and reuse. I am joking, but I can assure you that even permanent markers can easily be cleaned off Chessex maps after months if you use isopropyl alcohol to clean it off. I can see that being high contrast and easy to see, and would probably show up really well on a web cam (one friend in my gaming group lives in Germany, so he always joins the face to face game remotely). It is simply unclear writing by Gygax and others that makes people think there's rules behind the curtains.Best thing about them is that you lay out the tiles as you need them, rather than laying out the whole mat at once. I learned this the hard way, and I still have not-so-faint red marks on my biggest map from a game session over ten years ago. Remainder Mark - A remainder mark is usually a small black line or dot written with a felt tip pen or Sharpie on the top, bottom, side page edges and sometimes on the UPC symbol on the back of the book. The black is not bad, but blue and red are extremely difficult to clean off and leave possibly permanent marks or at least multiple cleaning is required. Also early ones has problems with red pen or pen left on for long, though that was 5+ years ago so they may have fixed it.

My Chessex Battlemat (20+ years and going strong : those were *not* 'Made in China') is within reaching distance . The material presented here is my original creation, intended for use with the GURPS system from Steve Jackson Games. Do not try and roll it up nice and tight like you would normal paper to protect it, you'll be doing it a disservice. ANYONE CAN BE A GAMES MASTER OR DM – Whether you are just starting out or are an experienced player this game mat will last you for many a year to come.I like the flexibility and I use only wet-erase markers, so neither are a problem for me, but it's something a consumer should know going in. I found a long cardboard tube somewhere once, i think from wrapping paper, about as wide as a paper towel roll. Rubbing Alcohol or just wet dry-eraser marker ink (erased right away) do a pretty good job of clearing up most stubborn stuff that is supposed to come off. You can get rid of the tiles you're not using as the players move around the dungeon, and bring them back if you have to.
