Bethan Woollvin graduated from the Cambridge School of Art with a First Class Degree in Illustration. These heroines do not need to wait around for woodcutters and princes, but can makes themselves masters - mistresses, rather - of their own destiny.

Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. In this defiant interpretation of the traditional tale, the cheeky, brave little girl seizes control of her own story (and the wolf gets rather more than he bargained for). In this New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book, girl power abounds as Little Red unravels the big bad wolf's plan.

It was a startlingly confident debut which she followed with an equally striking and feminist take on Rapunzel , with not a handsome prince in sight. Two Hoots) It seems that Little Red is not frightened by the wolf that appears on the path to Grandmother’s house. However, the wolf makes plans immediately to cut a shortcut to the Riding Hood house and thereafter eats Grandmother. The brilliant, limited colour palette, express use of black lines, the various shapes and perspectives all work to form a really satisfying picture book. The latest title Bethan has worked on with another author is ‘Meet the Planets’ written by Caryl Hart.

Since graduating, Bethan has worked on both her own written and illustrated titles, as well as being commissioned to illustrate for other authors. Winner of the Macmillan Children’s Book Competition; New York Times ‘Best Illustrated Book’; AOI World Illustration Awards for children’s books; nominated for the Little Rebels Children’s Book Award, and Klaus Flugge Prize. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. My 3 year old daughter absolutely adores this story, so much so that we have to read it three times (me, my husband and daughter all have a turn) before bedtime.

Lovely book that is wonderfully illustrated and teaches a good moral re girls standing up for themselves. She graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a First Class Degree in Illustration in 2015 and now lives in Sheffield. Bethan Woollvin’s defiant interpretations of the traditional tales are perfectly matched by her bold and visually arresting illustrations, painted in Pantone colours. But thats where things take a turn for the better, this Little Red Riding Hood has a plan of her very own and the wolf had better watch out! While studying a degree in illustration at the Cambridge School of Art, Bethan learned how to tell stories with pictures, and even penned her first children’s book ‘Little Red’ while at university.Printed using rich pantone colours, the graphic illustrations in Little Red offer a bold, visually arresting interpretation of the classic story by Bethan Woollvin, the winner of The Macmillan Prize for Illustration 2014. Thereafter, the bold black lined images, the hulking shapes and clever perspectives delight and entertain us. Seeing Bethan herself reading 'Little Red' to a group of enchanted, enthralled and enthused children was amazing in itself.

I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! A striking new interpretation of the beloved Little Red Riding Hood story - with a dark and witty twist. The wolf is hungry, and Red Riding Hood looks tasty, so he hatches a dastardly plan, gobbles up Grandma and lies in wait. Thoughtfully written by someone who clearly understands how children think and feel and what they look for. The perfect gift for fans of darker fairy tales, complete with tree-shaped cover flaps that make this a sumptuous sight to behold.
