About this deal

The JLA opponents believe the world is doomed unless they take over which includes eliminating the JLA members.

If the Green Lantern comics were actually about a guy shepherding an entire section of THE UNIVERSE then I would read that too, but he’s a part-time pilot who spends most of his time on Earth. And then when he’s floated there long enough the Phantom Stranger pops up and pings him back to Earth in an instant - my, how convenient! However, Ross wants too much in this book and by the end not only are the Justice League on every page he’s cramming in The Doom Patrol, Teen Titans, The Metal Men, The Phantom Stranger, and The Marvel Family. MINI REVIEW: I started by reading this in parts and then saw it was all in one volume so I started over to get the full experience.

A certain character is in a seemingly inescapable situation for most of the book and it was very well done, so much so that I didn’t have any problem with it being a sub-plot in a much bigger story, but then The Phantom Stranger shows up out of the blue and essentially says “Enough of this, here’s all the stuff you need to be okay again, now let’s head back and save the day. Suddenly, across the globe villains like Lex Luthor, Captain Cold, and Poison Ivy offer up help the downtrodden, particularly those with disabilities and people living in the third world. So yeah, I've never gotten the Justice League, but I really like Alex Ross' art, and Alex Ross loves him some Justice League, mmmm boy. There is a visual mirroring or flipping of a scene in KC which retroactively foreshadows, a parallel scene in Justice. But e members of the fabled Justice League of America are about to learn they aren't the only ones who can band together toward a common goal.

Toward the end there’s the inevitable slugfest between the protected JLA, their villainous enemies, and other heroes who’ve been brainwashed, and it’s immense. This was one of the books I read as a kid in middle school that really made fall in love with the Justice League, particularly the satellite era to be honest. It takes itself far, far too seriously and could've used a little more humor to deflate the overall pretentiousness of the writing, but it's a nice companion piece for fans of Kingdom Come, essentially serving as a prequel to that story.

Ross still does quite a few cover commissions for Marvel, he did the last run of Amazing Spider-Man’s covers and is now painting them monthly for Ta-Nehsi Coates’ Captain America title. But the Justice League, instead of feeling like a celebration of all things superheroic by having a giant team-up book, has always seemed to me like a dilution of what was good about each character.Aquaman Azrael Bane Barbara Gordon Barry Allen Batgirl Batman Batman (Armored) Batman (Bruce Wayne) Batman: Arkham City Reviews / Figure Specs Batman: Arkham Series Reviews / Figure Specs Bizarro Black Canary Blackest Night Reviews / Figure Specs Black Manta Blue Beetle Brainiac Bruce Wayne Catwoman Checklists (Action Figures) Commissioner Gordon Cyborg Damian Wayne Darkseid DC Collectibles DC Comics The New 52 Reviews / Figure Specs DC Direct DC Universe Animated Movie Reviews / Figure Specs Deadshot Deathstroke Dick Grayson Firestorm Green Arrow Green Lantern Green Lantern (Alan Scott) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) Green Lantern (John Stewart) Harley Quinn Hawkgirl Hawkman J'onn J'onzz Jason Todd Jervis Tetch Katana Kid Flash Killer Croc Lex Luthor Man-Bat Martian Manhunter McFarlane Toys Mera Mr. Batman learns The Riddler has ransacked the databases of Wayne Enterprises and is armed with dossiers on every Leaguer. There is a reason for multiple scenes of Brainiac crowing over a captured Aquaman, for instance, but as Justice continues more and more plot holes lack an explanation.
