About this deal

Los diálogos de besugo más que aburrirme me han causado entre gracia y angustia porque me han resultado desesperantes poniéndome en la piel del protagonista.

The question of power is another fascinating theme of this surprisingly complex and multilayered work. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. The first one, Brotherhood of Mutiliation was so popular that the author decided to expand on it and wrote a part two, Last Days. This is a fierce and darkly humorous novel that questions the boundaries and blind faith of religion while cross-examining the dubious making of a savior. He is being held captive and is asked to solve a mystery, though the problem is that things work differently in this brotherhood. First and smallest of my anti-xian rants here commenceth: Srsly y'all can any sane person in possession of even modest decoding skills think this crap is meant literally?

I love the way that Evenson kept us the reader, and our hero in the dark through most of this, only revealing to us the true plot "piece by piece"! Kline se ve desprovisto de una de sus manos, este hecho le lleva a sumirse en una depresión y en un bucle en el que no ve salida, hasta que un día La Hermandad de la Mutilación se pone en contacto con él para resolver un crimen.

Furthermore, it’s a narrative that demonstrates how hilarity and snarky dialogue can be used effectively even when a story is pushing at the edges of its genre’s darkest, most emotionally gritty and grotesque boundaries. All, we do know, is that he is a brave son of a bitch that is freaking hard to kill, and that he really just wants to be left alone.

Especially if we read them as alien and grotesque, and I would suggest that Kline’s encounter with the Brotherhood, at least in part, can and should be read as an overreaction by someone fundamentally alienated by what he regards as Other. The story follows a detective kidnapped by a religious cult who believe amputations bring one closer to God. Last Days tells the story of Kline, a detective who, after losing an arm, gets pulled into the worlds of two rival cults who remove their own body parts to get closer to God. Note: I’m going to refrain from describing characters as odd, bizarre, creepy or deranged during this review because EVERY SINGLE character Kline encounters would fit one or all of those appellations.

I think there’s a very different point there in respect to religions, and the constant indirection is part of it all. Eso sí, los que disfruten con la acción y situaciones desagradables se lo pasarán de lo lindo, pero para mi este aspecto no ha sido suficiente, los "peros" han pesado más que los elementos positivos. Lucky for me, after many years lost in the wilderness, suffering many trials and tribulations, I’ve finally discovered the one true religion - Pastafarianism. Do you leave well enough alone and hope things work out, or do you step back into the shit and try to make things right on your own? Of course, that’s before the shit hits the fan but I’d be running like hell at the mere mention of these people, not trying to be casual and get along with them.Cuanto menos miembros tengan más cerca estarán de alcanzar esa divinidad y más alto es el rango dentro de su jerarquía. Interestingly, as he shoots his way to freedom, he asks himself how many bullets he must fire before he is no longer human. Asceticism, renunciation, abstinence, celibacy are still regarded as laudable goals by most churches, and even by regular, non-religious people. But Kline isn’t looking for a fight and when the fight comes looking for him, he isn’t really equipped to win it.
