About this deal

Disclosure: I was sent this Gro Snug for the purpose of this review but all thoughts and opinions are my own. The only slight challenge of the Grosnug with the arms contained is when breastfeeding, as I found it could be a little tricky to get Neve comfortable against the breast as her arms were quite bulky in front of her. One of the reasons I love a sleeping bag is that I think it’s a really good signal to baby from an early age that it is bedtime. At the time I used a cellular blanket to wrap him in but I was always slightly nervous of using blankets as I was worried that they might fall over his face. Once an item is removed from the packaging, the item must be handled through the manufacturer, according to federal law.

When you are preparing for a baby it is easy to be dazzled by the latest must-have item, only to find you use it once and it ends up in the back of the cupboard. As soon as my newborn made her arrival, I was keen to try out their new 2 in one Swaddle and Grobag suitable from birth – the Grosnug.

I know that my baby is safe and warm enough at bedtime and that I don't need to worry or fuss with blankets. The Grosnug has a large zip that runs from top to bottom and it really was a case of popping her in and zipping her up. One of the biggest positives I found during our Grosnug review, is that its design still ensures that nappy changes aren’t a challenge, even in a dimly lit room.

Also, my milk is a little on the fast side, and so I had to be extra careful not to get milk on the Grosnug, where as with a blanket I would remove this to feed her. Helen: I don’t know if this is possible but I would change this product by having a zip on a section at the bottom so that one item will last longer than the first couple of months so it could be extendable to last till the baby is six months old for example. From the first few days in the hospital alone, it became fairly clear that Neve liked to be swaddled. I bought a love to dream swaddle thinking this might help as it's less restrictive than the grosnug, but had a terrible night in it. The latter wasn’t a major problem, as I just needed to cover her with a muslin before I started feeding!I'm happy to use cellular blankets until then but not sure if swaddling at night is a faff when having to change?

The fact that you can unzip the arms meant I could use it during the particularly hot weather without worrying she would get too hot. As it says really, looking at either the grosnug which has the zip or the groswaddle which is the wrap around for a newborn. I'm wondering about trying her sleeping on her side too but obviously that goes against safe sleeping advice. I've only heard great things about Gro Snug so may well have an Xmas pressie all sorted now – thank you! Unlike some swaddle blankets I had used when Erin was a baby, putting Neve into the Grosnug was really straight forward, without needing a degree in origami like it can be with some others on the market!

The Gro Snug is designed to be wider on the bottom half so that baby has room to move their legs but is tighter across the chest. I had a very definite list of items that worked well with first son and some items that I wanted to replace for better alternatives. Due to my baby having reflux and often being sick during the night, the bag has been washed several times and the material has maintained its good quality (no fading or bobbling) and it dries very quickly. With the hot summer we are experiencing it is also nice to know exactly what to dress her in under the grosnug using the helpful guidance given on the packaging. With the Gro Snug there is also the option to make the arm holes tighter with additional poppers, a feature we used for the first couple of weeks to ensure that it was a snug fit on our little boy.

Truly a great product for any new born with the flexibility to try swaddling or not with your newborn from Day 1. The main struggle for me were the poppers, I feel like if these were zips they would make it a lot easier for putting the baby in and keeping arms inside. I slept well too, safe in the knowledge she would stay at the same temperature as unable to kick off her blanket which she had done at times before. All came with the 0-6 month label but with small detail that the baby needed to be 12 lbs minimum (which really no newborns come close to for a good month or so).
