These guys have some growing to do in terms of writing, but The Decline of the Enlightened Gods is a great album and I look forward to hearing more from them in future. I am especially fond of the orchestrations here—the choral hits with crazy chords over blast beats, the use of fluttering flutes—they give Wilderun a sound that is just genuinely unique in metal.

I didn't label my bisexuality in my profile (which you shouldn't), so if someone ended up having a problem with my sexual preferences, it was their loss. Yet, Atlantis does things a little differently, because it’s a bit like the MTV Unplugged version of Soen.

Shout out to the formerly tightly betrousered and hilariously beswooped Jonatan Karasiak for his totally wild performance throughout this whole record. Anyone who doesn’t love this album should probably be investigated by the House Un-American Activities Committee. Spots 6-10 are taken up by the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Spain and Brazil—a who’s who of excellent footballing nations (and an excellent Eurovision nation) that also love our brand of high quality, long form analytical reviews. Fauna finds them working in the artistic tradition of writing music that’s meant to evoke other creatures—bulls, monkeys, elephants, etc. There have been some gripes that Memorial hews too close to the arc of Imperial, but I think the album has both its own sound and is loaded with great songs.

Despite the storyline being about a significant death, Family Guy still manages to deliver some laughs. I don’t care what you think, Foregone has some of the best material the band has put out since Colony and I am fucking here for it. The Micro Crew Cushion model offers an outstanding balance of comfort and weight; it was designed for hikers. Shiki, which I’m told is a heart-wrenching and honest example of the band’s frontman coping with his fear of death, does what Sigh has always done best: it combines a classic black metal—by which I mean Venom—with an idiosyncratic orchestral vision and a compelling compositional voice that belongs only to Sigh.Worn like a standard Guy Cotten smock or Jacket, it also protects the lifejacket from damage when at work because the an inflatable lifejacket does not if it is damaged or punctured. Peter's lack of intelligence has led to plenty of humorous moments over the years, but perhaps none more so than in the season 4 episode, "Petarded.

If you want a minimal and much lighter pack, check out the Zpacks Sub-Nero 30L, which I sometimes use as well ( video here). Fabio sounds, again, as good as he’s ever sounded—keeping his vibrato in check, while flexing his opera muscles—and Somerville has a fantastic voice. There are few musicians in metal that I respect as much as Michael Romeo and it’s a rough turn of events for me. And while I’m not quite in love with it as Steel Druhm, it’s hard to believe this album isn’t getting even more love around here than it is. Yet, I can’t help but continue to reiterate the thought that I ended my review of Amorphis’ 75th studio album on: I’m not sure we even know what to do with the kind of fecundity and consistency that Amorphis has shown over the years.

Here’s a special shout out to the section that starts around 5:20 that sounds like Radiohead as interpreted by Muse as interpreted by Haken before breaking into a ridiculous guitar solo. It occurs naturally too, as some of the show's classic scenes are revisited as the world goes back in time. De Profundis // The Corruption of Virtue [October 7, 2022 via Transcending Obscurity Records] — De Profundis is finally getting their due.

It gets you (and your whole car) free admission everywhere you need a federal pass in the USA, including National Parks like Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, and Smokies. So much of the culture exported from Japan feels extreme; almost baroque in its weirdness or its mashup of styles and influences, and ICDD is no exception. Sigh – “Satsui – Geshi No Ato” – From those opening guitars, I knew that this was going to be one of those songs that I looked back on with fondness; Sigh just doing Sigh things. There are some exciting new satellite communicators on the market, and having tested them all, I can tell you that the Garmin inReach is the gold standard and one you can feel comfortable relying on to save your life.The current season, which serves as the series' 21st, brought the total number of episodes beyond the 400 mark: an impressive feat that few other animated shows have ever managed to accomplish. The result of this unholy blending of sounds and feels is a doom metal that I love as much as nearly any doom in my collection. Yet, despite Woe hat-tipping its influences liberally—like Cynic on “The Behemoth That Lies Asleep” or Opeth on… well, pretty much the rest of the album—nothing about Woe feels derivative. I used to be a tough guy and just put clothes in a stuff sack for a pillow, but I've mellowed out in my old age.
