About this deal

I sometimes borrow it and use it in my home office rather than heating the whole house, and it is pretty effective. My only small criticisms of the radiator is it is slightly higher than I would have like, coming a little above the shelf on the dwarf walls of the conservatory. It features the "Venturi Effect", in which an internal chimney-like structure increases convective air flow. However I have not had it on the highest third setting since I first turned it on, and for the most part it has been on the lowest setting, setting 1, lowest that is except for the frost safety setting. Will now work out the cost of this but am confident that it will be a lot cheaper to run than oil boiler going all night for just 1 radiator!

Whilst, it does put out a decent amount of heat, even just on the 2nd of it's three heat settings, I find that it (still) gives off a strange odour, very hard to describe not burning smell as such but a noticeable odour that isn't pleasant. The Vento V550920 Oil-Filled Radiator by De'Longhi is an essential item to have when the temperature drops, providing comfort and warmth to any room. On entering the bedroom it's nice and warm so I turn the power level down to the 2nd second or even 1st power level. This convective effect increases the speed at which the room is heated, in addition to the radiant heat produced.

If this is going to be your primary heating device for a large space I would maybe look for something a little bigger, however for a normal sized room its perfect. Many of the poorer heaters have large headline kWh ratings, but have very small surface areas (lack of metail fins, panels, vents) needed to circulate warm air around a room. The above review I made on or around 26/4/2013 and have used this oil filled radiator ever since and the winters here are very, very cold! First thing you will notice is how good it looks (for a radiator that is), it does not look out of place in the corner of a room and is far away from the normal sqare and chunky design.

It eaaily heats my 18x12 front room, somethng the 800W Bambino barely managed and the 2kW Challege didn't come close to heating. Its variable thermostat has frost protection and a choice of three heat settings, with a safety cut out switch to prevent it from overheating. To satisfy my curiousity I put a power meter on it, and found with the usual setting I have that it consumes around 650 watt. All that the kWh rating dictates is how much energy can be input into heating the oil to a desired temperature.

On first turn on, it does give off a not particularly bad, but strange smell, almost like a new plastic smell when you first turn on new electronics. Heater is used on a time switch to come on for 2 hours at lunchtime, then from midnight until 9 am and the bedroom is now nice and warm, and that's using the heater on its lowest setting (700kw) which hopefully means that when winter really arrives up here in the north Pennines, we have plenty of spare heating power. My view is NO electrical appliance should be used in the bathroom unless it is designed for bathroom use and it correctly wired in by an electrician. I use them with Wemo plug sockets to allow me set timers and switch them on or off remotely, very useful for heating up my outbuilding on a frosty morning. I use it in my bedroom with an electrical plug-in thermostat which has been a very good economical set-up. My second rad was a DeLonghi 800W Banmbino which was actually purchaed for a small 8ft x 8ft office room.

It does a great job of warming the area although truth be told we have not had any really cold weather as yet. A higher rating will obviously heat the oil to peak temperature faster, but once reached much less energy is generally needed to maintain oil temperature. It takes a while to heat an average size room, but its easy to forget about it once you relax in the heat! There is a slight new smell but with each use it decreases and, if you keep your door open, that allows for ventilation.

The main body of the radiator is encased in a surrounding second outer shell, creating a chimney-like space in between the two. Bought two of these to survive a broken boiler over Christmas a few years ago, and have used one ever since under my desk in a cold office at work and one in my bedroom at home to help regulate the temperature as the room is often much cooler than the rest of the house due to the roof design. The trick is to use them only when needed and to keep them set as low as possible to keep comfortable. I gave it 4 out of 5 because as there are no handles or anything to grip that isn't warm when it heats up, you can't really move it unless you get a towel or slide it along the floor on a mat.
