About this deal

And I really wish Abby's severe cramp problems were dealt with more elaborately towards the end because she's suffering too much and it was affecting her schooling. Upon discovering that the tampon dispensers in their school are always empty, a group of four friends embark on a mission to stand up to the school board, and demand free menstruation products in all bathrooms. This warm, candid friendship story isn’t shy about the message it’s trying to send―that periods need not be a dirty secret. Go with the Flow is an uplifting graphic novel about friendship and period positivity for middle schoolers and young teens. The captivating illustrations are all in various shades of red, getting lighter and darker with the girls' varying tone throughout the story. A final “go big or go home” strategy upsets her friends — especially Sasha, who is still trying to live down her “Bloody Mary” episode. The initial start of the book is about period embarrassment and bleeding through one's clothes as a freshman in high school and as someone who was still having this happen in graduate school -- yay unpredictable cycles -- I can only imagine the shame attached when you're younger. The book is entertaining, frequently funny, and expertly illustrated; the reader learns so much about the girls' personalities just from their expressive faces! High school students embark on a crash course of friendship, female empowerment, and women's health issues in Lily Williams and Karen Schneemann's graphic novel Go With the Flow. One student immediately added it to her TL’s recommend a purchase list because she agreed with the idea of normalizing periods.

This graphic novel successfully empowers readers and guides them to speak up and reclaim agency when they feel something is not right with not only their own bodies, but with the world around them. We wrote a story about friendships and periods for kids to relate to and learn from and they can’t do that if they don’t have access to the book.

It’s aimed at teens but I’m going to purchase it for my Year 7/8s as I know some of them would enjoy it. the story is firmly grounded in the realities faced by girls and women, and the timely messages of empowerment and political dialogue will resonate with socially minded youth. It is both approachable and grounded, and the author and illustrator have created a story that covers not only what it’s like to be a teenage girl but also manages to be utterly inclusive and diverse in equal and perfect measure. Weeks of punishing labor later, Stanley digs up a clue, but is canny enough to conceal the information of which hole it came from.

Parents need to know that Go with the Flow, a graphic novel by Lily Williams and Karen Schneemann, takes on the often taboo subjects of menstruation and "period activism" with heart, humor, and a maturity just right for young readers. Go with the Flow demonstrates a healthy female friendship that is supportive but not afraid of being honest. Every four years, two children, one regarded as particularly nice and the other particularly nasty, are snatched from the village of Gavaldon by the shadowy School Master to attend the divided titular school. But most importantly for kids, stories can provide a safe space for kids who might otherwise not have the resources or community to support them.

The women in our family are all VERY contact allergic to nickel, an allergy that is already more sensitive during menstruation.
