About this deal

Because the pellets are extremely porous, they can hold the nutrients for much longer than it is effective, so you should either limit their use to a small duration of time, of you need to take the time to rinse them periodically. A good sign that it’s been left too long is the salt residue that forms on the top layer. In this build, I used this Exo Terra terrarium, but you can use an ‘aquarium’ or breeder tank. It’s hard to say which is better and what size you need. It all comes down to the species and how many you’re keeping. It’s an all-natural fertilizer, which is also well-draining and has a high water-retention capacity. A small or medium water dish is all that’s required in most cases. The one I used was way too big but its all I had at the moment. If you have an x-large water dish, it will work but something smaller is usually better.

I’d recommend Fernwood New Zealand tree fern fiber for a sustainable source. Tree fern fiber kind of looks like a twiggy version of coir. The same is true for a terrarium substrate mix. You’re aiming to achieve the ideal balance of water retention, drainage, aeration, and support. These types of system usually have a strong continuous flow of water. This makes hydroton a perfect medium choice as it is hard to be washed away, and can drain water well. Growers usually use only Hydroton as the main growing media or mix with your materials like Perlite, vermiculite with Hydroton at the bottom of the mixture to improve the drainage of the mixture. What you should not do with Hydroton Don’t let these pebbles get totally dried out

Another thing to consider is the size. Will you have enough room in the enclosure? While the waterfalls listed here are fairly small, it’s always a good idea to measure the free space in your terrarium first before you buy. As a refined material, it’s not going to break down in your terrarium (at least not for a very long time), and it’s resistant to pests. False bottoms and hydroballs are designed to let the water drain out of the soil, keeping the soil from becoming saturated. Your soil sounds saturated. I wouldn't blame the mister for the saturation but the fact you don't have any drainage. Oh, did I mention it includes an instructional book? Well, it does! Whether you read it or not is entirely up to you but I recommend watching some YouTube tutorials on this topic before buying. The waterfall kit is great, mind you. It comes with a water pump, hydroballs, terrarium mesh, tubing and, well, the instruction book. In case you don’t know, hydroballs go on the very bottom; the base layer. Water drains through the substrate, passing through the terrarium mesh, and fills the bottom of the tank. Without hydroballs and mesh barrier, your substrate will get soaked.

Once you have an area for the water to drain (doesn't matter if it is the false bottom or hydroballs) you will have to drain the water or syphon the water out. To drain it, you will have to drill a hole (I don't think you are ready for this) in the glass. I would recommend you syphon. Just put a tube in the bottom of the tank and make an area for it to come out the lid. This way you can syphon without disrupting the tank. LECA” is actually a sexy acronym for an otherwise un-sexy product. Lightweight Expandable Clay Aggregate, to be precise. This unit comes highly recommended because it is visually appealing and offers beginning hobbyists a means of adding a waterfall feature without having to build it yourself.Leca eliminates both risks by sequestering water that finds its way to the bottom. It’s a way to capture excess water and only release it when necessary (plus, it’ll boost ambient humidity).
