About this deal

Easy to install, ultra-strong and made from lightweight PP resin. No cutting, drilling or heavy lifting required; screw loft led directly into position. In the majority of cases lofts are dirty and very dusty. All the dust in the air seeps through the tiles and roofing felt joints to settle on your ceiling. Add to that the dust created by old insulation and you have a pretty unhealthy environment. Screw the loft panel to the leg using same screws as before. Cut and fit infill pieces as you go to complete the run of boards. You should pre-drill holes through the panel. The horizontal rafter, or ceiling joist timbers in your loft are there purely to hold up the ceiling below, not carry weights beyond normal domestic storage items. Types of Loft Boarding and Flooring

Another addition you may want to consider is adding some truss shelves. These are basically shelves that are created between the roof trusses either side of or around the boarding that can be used for additional storage. The main problem with the loft leg system is that if your ceiling joists are not level it simply does not work and you need spacers to make the boards level. Some people say that counter battening with timber is much more stable. If also lagging water pipes as part of your loft insulation project, we recommend doing this before laying any loft floor insulation. This is because it can be difficult to access, measure and insulate water pipes once the loft floor is covered - especially insulated floor boards. This guide is based on installing glass mineral loft insulation wool rolls. The minimum recommended depth of this type of insulation material is 270mm. This equates to a Thermal Resistance R-Value of 6.1 Remove any and all old insulation from the loft and replace with hard insulation between the existing joists

When your house was built, the upstairs ceiling, which forms the loft floor, was designed to be able to carry 25kg per square metre in accordance to British Standard 6399-1:1996. A 10 stone human being weighs 64kg. Conclusion, lofts are not designed for parties! Clearly to achieve the greater load bearing capacity of 150kg per square m, stronger (usually larger) timbers have to be placed over the existing joists (or in some cases replace them) that are mounted on suitable structural supports. Insulating a loft is one of the most effective ways to reduce the cost of heating bills and be more energy efficient, all while keeping the home warm in the colder months. Even if you already have some existing insulation, it’s key to have the optimum amount for it to be truly effective. Insulation guards - also known as heat diffusers, loft caps or loft covers, they protect any recessed light fittings from overheating underneath the insulation. Buy as many as needed. There are two options – narrow or wide loft rolls. Narrow rolls work best in small spaces, while wider rolls can be more cost-effective and can be cut to size to fit unusual, or wider joist widths.Step 5 – Lay and Fix Remaining Timbers: With the first timber fixed, measure out along the existing joist 400mm and make a mark. Do this for all other joists and then cut another timber to length and screw it down ensuring that its centre is over each of the 400mm marks. Repeat this for the remaining timbers
