I'm writing this review after finishing the most recent chapter, and to be honest, I never expected the plot to turn out this way. As with many ‘fake dating’ stories, part of the enjoyment is seeing the characters break down each other’s walls, slowly turning a lie into truth. Yuama has wonderfully captured the tension and confusion Shizuku feels about this sudden change in her life, including Shizuku’s struggle with mental health.

If you want a change from the usual manga story beats, you’re not going to find it here. They fake date, they even go to the aquarium in the first volume. This is actually up there in terms of aquarium dates, however, as it reveals things about both of our leads and the mangaka is very good at getting across the emotional conflict. Kimi to Tsuzuru Utakata is a sweet but painful Yuri story by Yuama, I've also loved her previous work Ikemensugi desu Shiki-senpai!. Kimi to Tsuzuru Utakata (The Summer You Were There), Yuama's latest series, travels a far more difficult route than her prior work, The Girl I Want Is So Handsome, with more complex characters and darker topics.

LI who is popular finds it and loves the story and essentially announces she will be MC’s girlfriend for the summer to give her more material for her next story. LI seems weirdly enamored with MC who is withdrawn and unpleasant.
