About this deal

It is hard not to be swept along by Adoree’s enthusiasm for the past, her distinctly British approach to tea is about as far from the recent cupcake explosion as you can get” – Sunday Times Style magazine The Vintage Tea Party Book” is not a book which can be easily categorized, as it combines elements of various genres into one: cookbook, party planning guide, coffee table book, and craft book. Adoree divides “The Vintage Tea Party Book” into three main sections focusing on the factors involved in throwing tea parties for breakfast, brunch, and dinner. Each section features recipes, ideas for crafts/decorations, tea party activities, etc; while being supplemented with photos galore. Angel Strawbridge cordially invites you to accompany her on a journey to create your perfect vintage tea party! The Vintage Patisserie is a haven of all things glamour, vintage and retro. Run by Angel Adoree, the outstanding character you may have seen on Dragon’s Den or Channel 4’s Escape to the Chateau, the Vintage Patisserie is a vintage hosting company, originally founded in East London where it spent years wowing its clientele with unforgettable tea parties from a bygone era. In 2015, the company (and Angel) relocated to the beautiful Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson in France, and now offers fairytale vintage weddings, among other unique celebrations. For that reason, there’s nowhere better to get simple, elegant advice for hosting your very own Vintage Tea Party at home than from Angel and The Vintage Tea Party Book. This is one of those cookbooks that I love to own because it's more than just a collection of recipes. Along with the wonderfully nostalgic recipes are tips for putting together the perfect vintage tea party, such as ideas for serving the dishes and decorating the table; crafts; clothes, hair and makeup; and generally getting into the vintage spirit.

As well as providing sumptuous elegant recipes to cover every time of the day, Angel’s The Vintage Tea Party Book covers the full breadth of those little touches that make the perfect vintage party: Invitations, attire, decorations, props and more. The book is broken into: The main focus of “The Vintage Tea Party Book” is the recipes for the tea gatherings covering both sweet and savory concoctions plus beverages, of course. Adoree’s recipes are elegant and creative; yet, easy-to-make. Her instructions are simple and straight-forward encouraging the readers to attempt the masterpieces for themselves. Many of these are accompanied by photo gems allowing the reader to grasp food styling ideas. On the negative end though, most of the recipes are not vegetarian-friendly, not very healthy (and no nutritional information is available), and some of the ingredients are uncommon. Furthermore, American readers will have difficulties with European measurements, temperatures, and unfamiliar ingredient names. That said, it delivers on exactly what it claims to be- an instructional and entertaining book about how to host a small gathering (tea being the central, not sole, theme) with a vintage flair. Is your pinkie finger raised at the ready? There’s nothing more British than Afternoon Tea. This chapter is a treasure trove of tea-time delights, from classics to decadent treats, and I show how to make a Union Flag for the ultimate traditional tea party. However, I have only given two stars because the recipes section of the book was a disappointment to me. Personally I did not find many of the recipies appetising, and out of the whole book I only noted down a total of four recipes to try out. I think many of the recipes would be an acquired taste, and like every cook book not everything will satisfy everyone. Is your pinkie finger raised at the ready? Angel Adoree was a favorite on BBC's The Dragons' Den (the Brits' version of Shark Tank). She wowed the judges with her Vintage Patisserie business plan: Vintage Tea Party events in unusual venues. I enjoyed reading the autobiographical information about Angel. Her story is amazing! I also found that many of the recipes would actually be quite expensive to make, and may not fit into everyone's budget in today's financial situation. Some of the main ingredients include: oysters, veal, venison, scallops and crab. If you were to make several dishes, it may cost more than you would expect.

The Vintage Patisserie is a haven of all things glamour, vintage and retro. For that reason, there's nowhere better to get simple, elegant advice for hosting your very own Vintage Tea Party at home than from Angel and The Vintage Tea Party Book. Whereas the first book split the tea parties into times of day, (e.g. brunch, afternoon, evening) this one takes you throughout the year, with ideas for New Years tea parties for example. I did think about offering a 4 star review because the title is slightly misleading - I was expecting lots of the parties to be themed around the calendar year, for example Valentines, Easter, Halloween etc. However there is a general sprinkling of non-calendar specific chapters such as baby showers or a gentleman's tea...but to be honest, the ideas are amazing and have given me so much inspiration I felt like that was splitting hairs slightly.

If ever there was a vintage-clad, firey redhead that knew how to bring all the glam of the golden years to life, it's Angel Strawbridge. Angel has written down her well-honed insight for all things 'tea party' so that everyone can share the magic of this timeless era anywhere and for any occasion. As well as providing sumptuous elegant recipes to cover every time of the day, Angel's The Vintage Tea Party Book covers the full breadth of those little touches that make the perfect vintage party: Invitations, attire, decorations, props and more. The book is broken into: With brunch dishes such as Coddled Eggs and Asparagus Egg Custards with Parmesan Wafers, to afternoon teas of Onion and Potato Flowers, Bunting Butties, Cream Cheese and Cucumber Hearts, and Lollipop and Jam Sandwiches followed by scrumptious deserts including personalised Engraved Earl Grey Truffle Hearts, Rose Pannacotta and Lemon Scones with Lavender Cream – all washed down with Green Jasmine Tea Bubbles, Saffron G&Tea Shots or a Tea Tini Flower Martini and many other delightful drinks – your guests will be spoilt for choice! There are countless recipes including the quirky beef dinner in a jar, edible keys and asparagus cigars, aswell as more familiar treats such as rhubarb cobbler, sweet potato chips and shortbread.

Although I wasn't interested in making every single dish in here, that's not a measure of success for a book like this. I think even if you didn't make a single thing, just flipping through it and feeling inspired means it's done its job.

Angel Adoree cordially invites you to accompany her on a journey to create your perfect vintage tea party. Expect glamour, roses, rabbits, headscarves, foxes, teapots, crows, parlour games, cake stands, hair and make-up tips and, not forgetting, humongous amounts of magical tea party food that is fit for the Queen of England, and easy enough for you to make. What you won't find in this book: history lessons; education about different types of tea; instructions for brewing the perfect cup. To extend on this, “The Vintage Tea Party Book” is a visual feast hence giving it coffee table book status. Every focal point was cleverly designed graphically with stunning photos, whimsy fonts, and perfect colors. Think: “Alice in Wonderland” meets steam punk. Not only is the actual content of “The Vintage Tea Party Book” interesting but the presentation is artful. Amongst the edible delights are craft projects and hair and make-up advice. Instead of using pencil drawings as in her previous book, Adoree gives us clear step by step instructions with photographs (we like this!) and all in her unmistakable style.I loved 'Vintage Tea Parties' by Angel Adoree, and was so excited when I heard that she was writing this follow up volume - and I was not at all disappointed! This book is filled with beautiful illustrations as well as gorgeously styled food photos. I really just makes me want to host an afternoon tea every weekend.
