About this deal

I personally don’t particularly like a wish fulfillment story. Although it may sound contradictory as fictions are mostly written to create an unfulfilled reality, but please bear with me. In this novel’s case, the readers might seek an escape and hope to have a one-in-millionth fateful encounters with a certain amazing person who will pull them out of their misery. Yes, it uses every cliche and trope listed in the How to Write a Romance handbook. If you have seen the rom-coms noted above, then you can predict every paragraph in these light novels. If you make an outline of Horimiya, you can just change the names and you will have The Angel Next Door. So why would I recommend this light novel series? The girl is wearing the same uniform as Amane’s school. Her flaxen, straight, and lustrous hair. Her caramel colored eyes. It’s none other than the school’s “Angel”, Shiina Mahiru. Not only is she a star athlete with perfect grades, she’s also drop-dead gorgeous. Truly, she seems like an angel who have fallen from the sky.

Hiru (ひる) means time from morning to evening, Ma (ま) means something that is exact. Therefore Mahiru (まひる) means "Midday". Even though we are often talking about two school-aged children, the series doesn't take much time to show them off at school at all. At best, two episodes show them at school, but this doesn't play into the plot much at all. Instead, the entire premise of the series follows a pattern that can wear thin on some people - Mahiru comes over to Amane's apartment, she makes dinner, they talk, then the day ends. It's repetitive for sure, and I'm sure the author was aware of this. Still, each appearance gets mixed up a little each time enough. A new situation is brought up each time as a different topic of discussion, and the cute relationship that forms between our main couple gets better and better. There is a relaxing tranquility coming from this show. The characters are not extreme (okay, Mahiru's character is a bit unrealistic as said in the beginning), maybe they are a little bit dull according to anime standards, but as a result, there is no constant, made up drama, nobody is screaming and whining through episodes, the male lead has a brain and actually uses it, he is capable of making decisons and communicating those straight (whoa! Ok, not with a Hachiman level of vocabulary), or express his emotions in words (double whoa! "Do you wanna me to make a move on you?" That's all folks), nobody, and especially not the girls, is put into humiliating situations, there are no nasty jokes, fan service, nobody is bleeding through their nose. Reviews

At the end of summer vacation, the school had a slightly buoyant atmosphere—the cultural festival was closing in. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten (Manga), Volume 1". Square Enix Manga & Books . Retrieved July 1, 2023. The story is heavily influenced with so many Japanese drama and manga that revolves around in a pure relationship of destined fate of romance. Everything about this show is a whole bunch of predictable here and there. For an icing in the cake, they added a very common tropes that we all had known very long ago, there are no single uncommon tropes here except the fact that the heroine know exactly where our main protagonist house is despite the fact that they talk less in the first episode, which is weird. Now, I’m an avid enjoyer of a show and never read of their LN’s or Mangas. So probably she did something before that’s why he knows his house, but whatever this is the small detail that I just cant help to point out. Also the kind of tropes “ohh, she lives near me, coincidently”. You can’t count how many times this trope has already exist, even the latest, long lasting (boring) anime with three season about rent a girlfriend has this kind of tropes already. But we’re not going to discuss about that. The only good thing came in this show is that it doesn’t have any kind of bullshit harems (which I purely respect, because I love how there’s no love is war stuff). Well, of course there have to be the downside of it, because the nature of this show, there has to be an influence between the third party (or themselves), so they can “naturally” progress through the story. Well its nothing bad, its just super common that I grew bored of it, probably because of the execution, it forgets me about this part. Well despite of that, the story is actually chill and gives off a really natural vibe of romance about “looking at someone without judging them from their looks” pretty ironic that their looks is actually the “prince and princesses” tropes. What if their looks was actually “beauty and the beast”. Then it would be a different story.

I always admire light novels in general because they portray details such as expressions, emotions, and inner dialogues in a complex but understandable way. While not all light novels did those things successfully, this LN did great with its narrations, dialogues, and choice of words which makes you If you came here looking for something ground breaking or something never done before. You'll be sorely disappointed. This is not what this light novel is about. There's nothing new here that hasn't been done before.

Mahiru is a beautiful girl whose classmates all call her an "angel." Not only is she a star athlete with perfect grades–she's also drop-dead gorgeous. February 18, 2020). 【重要】お隣の天使様の発売日につきまして (in Japanese). Shōsetsuka ni Narō . Retrieved September 3, 2022.

A manga adaptation, which was announced on November 18, 2019, [30] with art by Wan Shibata and composition by Suzu Yūki began serialization in Square Enix's online manga magazine Manga Up! on January 6, 2022. [2] [31] As of December 7, 2022, its chapters have been collected in two tankōbon volumes. Every part of Mahiru's appearance is synonymous with beautiful, and she is often inseparably described as such. Her blond hair is always straight, well-groomed, flaxen, silky smooth, and lustrous. Her large eyes are caramel colored, with long lashes, both top, and bottom. In addition, Mahiru possesses pale, milky-white, soft, perfect skin and a shapely nose. able to picture the situations that the author wanted to portray and feel the emotions that the author wanted you to feel. It's the first time I put an opinion on my anime list and it's normal I never usually put it... but the opinions put forward concerning this light novel are quite negative so I come to give my simple clear and precise opinion on this work) The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten 6 Special edition with life-sized tapestry] (in Japanese). SB Creative. 6 December 2021 . Retrieved January 4, 2022.The series is, at its core, the romance between a fairly unremarkable male protagonist and a heroine who seems to be an embodiment of all that is good in the world. I don't really have an issue with 'ideal girlfriend' fiction in and of itself, but Tenshi-sama suffers from a crippling problem in execution The author has endeavored to try to give Mahiru superhuman appeal in every single facet and does not hesitate to scream in the reader's face about her loveliness every other line. In what I would've considered parodic fashion if I didn't know better, every single action Mahiru takes is accompanied by a flurry of adjectives about how cute or beautiful or charming she is, like the author thinks we're amnesiacs who need reminding every five seconds that yes, Mahiru is a girl with attractive qualities. The absurd levels of grandstanding are so distracting it completely destroys the notion that Mahiru is anything but an artificial creation of the author's delusions. Rather than feeling like a real character, Mahiru feels like a shallow caricature of similar heroines in its genre. Loo, Egan (October 8, 2023). Note: I am reading this series in Japanese, and my review reflects my opinions after the latest volume, the eighth, which released earlier in January of this year. For people who love romance, this is perfect as well. Great character development by both main characters, and it is not rushed, which means that as a reader you can enjoy how those two relationships and emotions develop without missing anything at all. I think what I love the most from this LN is the fact that I could enjoy their precious relationship by seeing changes in their acts, emotions, and feelings throughout the chapters from the first until the latest volume. Their classmates seemed to have grown accustomed to the couple-like atmosphere of Amane and Mahiru, and they watched over their daily lives with warm looks. Now in their second year of high school, Amane and Mahiru are placed into the same class. Despite Mahiru’s efforts to bring them closer together at school, Amane is reluctant to bridge the gap because of his shyness towards everyone’s “angel.” As he watches Mahiru’s friendliness erode the barriers between her and her classmates, old wounds he once thought were healing begin to resurface...
