About this deal

That hasn't, thankfully, quite happened; there is still a great demand for the classic radio - although modern versions are required to offer a more wide-ranging list of tasks and functions. Since radio happens to be a massive part of the British lifestyle, Revo knows that if it wants to capture the attention of its target audience, it needs to deliver something that’s not just stylish and stunning but functionally outstanding, too. Revo SuperSystem is an all-in-one music system that includes DAB/DAB+, FM and internet radio, Spotify Connect support, Bluetooth wireless streaming, connection to NAS drives and other devices, Ethernet, USB charging and other connectors. Controls are as for the SuperConnect and there’s an OLED display plus dual alarms.

Pure Elan Connect+: The best entry-level internet radio All Ruark devices have a RotoDial control system that accesses menus by scrolling and then pressing to select. Added to that, there’s a remote control plus an UNDOK app for use on a phone or tablet. The demands on the modern radio are more burdensome than ever. Not only does a good radio have to provide access to the airwaves as it always has, but now there’s a demand for streaming, not to mention high-fidelity audio and a striking, eye-catching design. Most contemporary units must be a Swiss army knife of functions. With a graphical OLED display and a 15W audio performance, the Revo is brimming with functionality. The speakers built into the SuperConnect are BMR drivers (balanced mode radiator) that use flat diaphragm transducer technology, combining the attributes of a flat-panel speaker with the pistonic movement of a conventional dynamic loudspeaker. The result claims Revo, a high-performance compact drive unit that disperses sound over an area with an expanded sweet spot. What’s more, they can stream stations from all around the world – so you can still listen to BBC Radio, Kiss, Classic FM and the rest, or try out world music from Brazil and Mali, classical broadcasts from Berlin and Vienna, talk radio from New York and country music straight from Nashville.

Unlike many other radios, the Revo radio also features Spotify Connect – although you’ll need a premium Spotify account to access it. We loved the original Revo SuperConnect internet radio (below), but nearly a decade later, the stereo upgrade has taken things to new heights. The SuperConnect Stereo is a certified five-star performer in pretty much every department, serving up superb sound alongside sleek retro-modern looks and a whole raft of features and connectivity options. SuperConnect Stereo is the stereo version of one of the world’s most acclaimed digital radios. It takes the expression of REVO’s design and engineering philosophy and the culmination of everything we have learnt in more than 20 years of award-winning product design and development to the next level. The SuperConnect Stereo is a ‘connected’ radio that delivers over 36,000 radio stations from around the world and a host of next-generation features and functionality.

Performance is important but only in the context of a radio's value. A much more expensive radio might come with lots of bells and whistles, like various streaming service support and lots of connectivity options, but if you're only ever listening to the same four radio stations, you might be better served by a more focused radio that caters to your needs. Equally, if your internet radio is doing double duty as your main audio system, it needs to be up to the task (and your budget). And if you're not getting outright audio enjoyment, it's not exactly great value. A five-star product both performs great and is excellent value. Performance, thankfully, matches stylistic panache, based on our testing. The Stream 94L is an immensely enjoyable listen, with voices coming through with crystal clarity, the sense of rhythm conveyed expertly, and delivery coming through as punchy, detailed and dynamically expressive throughout. In the same way that we once feared vinyl and CD would all but die out thanks to the rise of music streaming, there was a great deal of anxiety that the good old-fashioned radio would soon go to the wall when portable MP3 players, HomePods and smart speakers emerged from the technological oven.

A family company based on the south coast of England, Ruark Acoustics was formed in 1985 and, after initially making loudspeaker systems, began to manufacture music systems and radios in 2006. It aims to create design icons that deliver perfect sound and which owners can be proud of.Everything down to the speaker grille gives you a much-needed blast from the past – sure to get your nostalgia nodes tingling.
