Networking – Ethernet, Dual-band 802.11b/g/n/ac WiFi 5 2R2T & Bluetooth 4.2/5.0 via Realtek RTL8822CS Due to the large internal storage (64GB or 16GB) on the MECOOL KM7, there probably isn’t a huge need to expand internal storage but I still wanted to see if it worked.
The MECOOL KM2 Plus is an Android TV 11 streaming box that is Netflix certified and comes with some powerful specs. When I go into Apps under the Settings panel, I can also indicate whether it should run off internal or external storage. I typically run apps that require more resources on internal storage such as my VPN and Kodi. MECOOL was kind to send me this new model for early review and I’ve already created a First Impressions Video that is exclusively available to TROYPOINT Patrons and Founding Members. In You tube app play videos and transmit the audio with mecool bluetooth. The Bluetooth audio transmit sound to bluetooth speaker there is a distinct audio/video lipsync problem. Runs Android 11 on Amlogic S905Y4, with high speed and smooth performance, perfect for home entertainment, home theater, business use, and more.
When you put this KM2 Plus under pressure its temperature can be reached 70ºC or more, causing a performance little drop. But on normal use like watching movies, the temperature is acceptable between 40ºC – 60ºC And I find that the cooling system is fine on this box. Final verdict Google Assistant is built into Android TV so you will enjoy hands-free access to many features on this Android TV Box. You cannot play Netflix in HD on this device. Yes, the KM7 comes with a Netflix application but it’s less than ideal. I think this device compares most closely with the Chromecast with Google TV. But, I like this MECOOL Android box much better for a few reasons. To confirm this, I had my daughter test the remote as well. I plugged in a wireless 2.4Ghz remote that I had sitting on my desk for comparison purposes.
No Gigabit Ethernet – Do you really need speeds above 100Mbps for a streaming device? Keep in mind that you should be able to stream 4K content with 20-30 Mbps. Also, the wireless adapter on the MECOOL KM7 is still pulling almost 300 Mbps! This is great to see because we can get rid of the overbearing Android TV user interface and replace it with a customizable 3rd party launcher such as Wolf.Due to the small internal storage (8GB) on the MECOOL KM2, some may want to expand internal storage. This will allow you to install apps onto a USB drive or SD card. As for games we can run PUBG in medium/low quality and also cloud gaming services like NVIDIA GForce Now or Google Stadia using the APK to install it. In the emulators section we can get at most run some Wii titles, but we will not have problems with 2D games of classic consoles with emulators like Retroarch or using KODI, the full OS EmuELEC is not compatible.
