About this deal

The author documented the film's production for two years, gaining unprecedented access to the creative process of bringing this epic to life. Exclusive concept art, storyboards, behind-the-scenes photography, and production stills are accompanied by fascinating insights from the cast and crew. It’s not often you get the chance to work with a true visionary and Denis Villeneuve most certainly is that. The weight of expectation and legacy with this project simply added to the excitement of the challenge. Denis asked us to imagine a world where digital technology no longer exists and therefore conceive a new kind of tech. One that is more physical, organic and grounded in this dystopian world whilst also reflecting the characters and their divide within society. One of the most loved features of the first Blade Runner is the flying cars, which are just as awesome to watch in 2049. While flying cars aren't yet a reality, the design of the flying vehicles in 2049 is quite realistic and believable. Lighting and cinematography also influenced the choice of furniture and design: “Roger Deakins had a big part in the creative process, we worked very closely looking at possible light s sources. Together we also designed and custom made light fixtures and testing all manner of materials” Querzola continues.

The Art and Soul of Blade Runner 2049

Now that aside - and what really created its lasting impression on me was the images, this book for its size (and its big) has fewer words than you would expect and that is partly down I think to the intention of letting the pictures do the talking. And boy do they shout loud and clear. Gassner created what he refers to as a “pattern language” – a core vision which informed the production design, the sets and the choice of many of the objects and artefacts throughout the movie. This began with the redesign of the iconic flying police car – K’s Spinner, which is particularly angular and robust.Blade Runner (1985) · Blade Runner (1997) · Blade Runner 2049: Memory Lab · Blade Runner: Revelations · Blade Runner: Rogue · Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth

Blade Runner blade runner 2049 chair cinema Denis Villeneuve ennis house film furniture harrison ford jared leto kitchen lighting lights memory orb movie props movies pierre paulin Ridley Scott roger deakins ryan gosling I was delighted to give a talk at a recent screening of Blade Runner 2049 hosted at the stunning The Conran Shop showroom in London’s Fulham Road in collaboration with Sony. I took this opportunity to dissect and discuss my favourite artefacts in the film. Here I share my opinions on the hidden narrative behind these objects, supplemented by fascinating facts gleaned from conversations with the movie’s Set Decorator Alessandra Querzola SDSA and Concept Artist Mike Hill. Given the technological, political and environmental news that has hit us over the last few months, the choice and design of many of these objects predict the future with more insight than one might realise. Blade Runner (1982) I love the memory orb not only as a design object but also conceptually as an artefact that makes us consider what it means to be human and because of the questions it throws up around the connection between memory and identity. In Joshi’s (Robin Wright) LAPD office in Blade Runner 2049 we find an oh-so-beautiful grey metal E63 Table Lamp (also called the Ruspa Table Lamp) designed by Umberto Riva. very well done. as a massive nerdy fan of the original, and of it’s excellent sequel, i enjoyed the piece. i do have the cibi whiisky glasses, and also the ltd. ed. bladerunner 2049 whisky bottle in my collection. i just love that, 35 years after the fact, people are still referencing the film. that’s what makes it a classic, a cult fave, and an icon of dystopian film. you’ve done a man’s job, sir. Blade Runner 2049 is one of the prettiest movies you’ll ever see, so it’s a pleasure to share some of the concept art that went into the film’s creation. Paired with "Interlinked," this book is fantastic in filling in the gaps for those of us who love this film. The one complaint I have is that, compared to "Interlinked", the physical build quality of the book was relatively low. It wasn't extreme, and I still highly recommend the book, but having just enjoyed "Interlinked," with its higher build quality, I wished I could have spent an extra 5 dollars on this volume and gotten a similar binding and cover. I have loved Blade Runner from the day I saw it as part of a Sci Fi season of films on TV (yep didnt even get to see it at the cinema) however it did not stop me from immersing myself in its story, its creation and even the people who contributed to it (I even have some rare designs by Syd Mead who is credited with designing its iconic Spinner - although I have also work by Jim Burns as well curiously).Officer K, a Replicant, has a slave status in 2049. He's indentured to the LAPD as a Blade Runner, or one who goes after and executes rogue Replicants. The first weeks of the project were spent experimenting with the different visual effects that optical lenses, cine projectors, microfiche, card systems, etc. could produce. Even grapes and grapefruits, eyeballs and bone were dissected, magnified, photographed and scanned to create organic abstraction. These gorgeous, hand blown, heavy weight, double old fashioned glasses have been made by same Italian glass company in Tuscany since 1974 and are available to buy in our store. Director DENIS VILLENEUVE on the set of Alcon Entertainment’s sci fi thriller BLADE RUNNER 2049 in association with Columbia Pictures, domestic distribution by Warner Bros. Pictures and international distribution by Sony Pictures Releasing International. The Arnolfo di Cambio heavyweight glass whisky tumbler as see in Blade Runner. Interestingly Chris Baker said in an interview on Medium“If I designed Rogue City now I would have been a little bit more subtle. I would have stopped it from being overly feminine as well because it’s one sided, It’s very female oriented. I would have intertwined it so you were not quite sure what’s male and what’s female. I have always thought of it as being the sexual equivalent of Las Vegas”.
