About this deal

For what you can realistically expect from a vacuum of this size and power, the Shark CH950UKT performs admirably, and considering its handy form factor, it’s easy to have on hand to clear up any mess before it gets worked in. The first step is to remove the vacuum canister and cleaning head from the main body. To do this, there is a yellow button on the underside of the vacuum. The Shark’s filtration system does an acceptable job at preventing dust and dirt from escaping, although it’s not the most effective or hygienic we’ve tested. However, when I used it against our standard test spillage tests, I was blown away. Without an attachment connected, it easily gobbled up 26g of Cheerios on both carpet and hard floor. Where I’ve seen smaller handheld vacuums get clogged and overstuffed, the Shark has a clever design that traps the debris out of the way of the suction mechanism. On the other hand, the WV200UK’s pet tool isn’t motorised, unlike the CH950UKT. This makes the CH950UKT a better option for pet hair and stubborn dirt.

The power button sits at perfect thumb height on the top of the vacuum and offers a single level of suction, while the yellow bin-release button (pictured above) sits towards the nozzle end and releases the bin downwards with a single firm press. The 12.8fl oz / 450ml bin feels plenty big enough for general car cleans, as well as cleanups around the house. You also get a crevice tool and dusting brush included with the Shark Handvac. These tools are standard, but the crevice tool is somewhat on the short side, so it’s almost useless for getting between car seats. We still found it useful for areas like skirting boards, small gaps, and cobwebs though. We also found that the flip-down action of the bin system caused a cloud of dust to be released. Most of the debris and dust still ended up in the bin, but it’s certainly not the best choice for people with allergies. Maintenance

The Shark Cordless HandVac Pet Model is a great-value handheld vacuum cleaner, ideal for anyone on a tight budget

The Shark Handvac CH950UKT is an excellent handheld vacuum cleaner. It doesn’t come with many advanced features and it’s not the most convenient handheld, but when it comes to cleaning performance we think it’s amongst the best around. The Shark CH950UKT is a cordless handheld vacuum that’s designed to complement your corded vacuum cleaner, rather than replace it. We found that it’s a great tool for spot cleaning when you don’t want to get out your full-size vac, but the 10-minute run-time makes it unsuitable for longer cleaning sessions. The Shark Handvac only has one power setting, so it’s straightforward to operate. The button for this is easy to reach when holding the cleaner. This is important, as you’ll need to switch it on and off regularly to maximise the short battery run-time.

The Shark HandVac CH950UKT has a two-part filter, which can be accessed by removing the dust cup from the main body of the vacuum cleaner. Cleaning both filters is important to maintain airflow through your vacuum and prevent suction loss. Who should consider buying the Handvac? And how does it compare to other handheld vacuums? Keep reading our Shark Handvac CH950UKT review to find out. Overview of the Shark CH950UKT Handvac’s Features We found the CH950UKT provides excellent cleaning performance for a handheld vacuum. It was better at removing pet hair and dirt than most handhelds we’ve tested – even some with a much higher price – due to the powered brush bar and strong suction. It’s also great for cleaning hard floors, sofas, and car seats. For example, the CH950UKT is an excellent vacuum for hard floors and stairs. We also really like that it comes with a motorised pet tool, as this greatly improves the carpet and upholstery cleaning performance compared with most competing vacuums. As you would expect from a handheld vacuum, the Handvac has a simple design with an easy-grip rear handle. Shark has also kept it lightweight at 1.39kg (similar to the 1.38kg Dyson V7 Trigger,) which means it’s convenient to use and suitable for people with arthritis or hand pain.Instead, the Shark has a 2-part washable filter. While it’s not the best, we found that the filter still does a decent job of preventing particles from escaping. The CH950UKT filters are also easy to clean, although be sure to let both dry naturally for at least 24 hours before you use the vac again. Emptying and Cleaning

Measuring 20.5 x 3.7 x 4.3 inches / 52 x 9.5 x 11cm, the CH950UKT / Shark UltraCyclone Pet Pro Plus is on the larger side of compact, and is probably better suited to being stored in a cupboard rather than on a countertop. It’s still an ergonomic design though, and feels good to hold, with the handle built into its main body. Replace the filters in the frame, the frame into the dust cup, and the dust cup onto the main vacuum body. There’s no HEPA filter with the Shark Handvac, which is disappointing for a pet vacuum. A HEPA filter is more effective at containing dust and pet dander, so it’s a good choice for people with animals and allergies. The more expensive WV200UK uses this filter. If you want the strongest suction you’d have to opt for the Dyson V7 Trigger, which pulls through a lot more air than the Shark can muster. The Shark is also a bit fiddly to hold and the Hoover H-Handy 700 is better at offering a wand-like grip, although its smaller bin can’t hold as much dirt, while the Gtech Multi MK2 K9 has a more balanced feel in the hand. It’s not quite the best suction we’ve seen from a handheld, though. We still think the Dyson V7 Trigger has better performance, but it’s considerably more expensive – and there’s not a huge difference in cleaning power. Around the Home For these reasons, we don’t recommend buying the CH950UKT specifically as a car vacuum. It can still be useful for cleaning most of your car interior though. Stairs
