Using the intense mode won’t necessarily remove more plaque from the teeth and gumline. You don’t need a whitening mode to make your teeth whiter — the daily clean mode can achieve this. The Series 8 has 6 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive, intense, whiten & gum care) compared to the 5 of the Series 7 (daily clean, sensitive, intense, whiten & gum care). The extra mode the iO8 has is super sensitive. The result is that the iO 7 cleans very well, but it is not the best. From all of Oral-Bs advertising rhetoric, you might think that this new technology and fancy brush head would somehow lead to a breakthrough in cleaning, but it doesn’t. The brush cleans well, but it isn’t clearly ahead of the other Oral-B brushes we tested, and it isn’t as good as the Sonicares. Unboxing We will be the first to tell you that you don’t need an electric toothbrush to clean your teeth well. But, they do offer a number of benefits a manual can’t.

One nice little feature is that brush heads each have a small shape inscribed on the bottom like a triangle or circle. So if you are sharing the handle with someone, you can tell your brush heads apart using these little symbols. What else does it do? After having tested other Oral-B brushes, we were excited to see how different the iO would be. Oral-B claims that this has a revolutionary motor with micro vibrations. You still get a satisfying deep clean of the teeth and gums, but the feeling as the head moves over the teeth isn’t as intense. It’s like the dial for invigorating brushing has been turned down from 10 to 7. The slight harshness that has existed now doesn’t. Depending on the model you go for, you have the choice between 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 brushing modes. 7 is the maximum number of cleaning modes available on any Oral-B brush.

The Series 9 comes with a power2go charging case that allows the iO to be charged inside whereas the Series 8 comes with a standard travel case.

The brushing coach divides your mouth into 6 sections, 3 on top and 3 on bottom, and it is challenging to get all the sections clean in just 2 minutes. I found myself brushing for at least 30 more seconds each time to try to get my cleaning score up. I guess this is a good incentive to brush longer. The iO comes with a travel case that is functional but nothing special. It holds the brush handle and up to two brushes. It is white slippery plastic that snaps shut. When the brush is inside, there is nothing to keep it from rolling around, so it can fall out easily when you open it. The Series 9 has 7 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive, intense, whitening, gum care & tongue clean) compared to the 5 of the Series 7 (daily clean, sensitive, intense, whitening & gum care). The extra modes the iO9 has are super sensitive and tongue clean. I’ve always liked the intense clean that the round brush head gives, but some, understandably, have found it to be too much.

A second, lesser powered mode such as sensitive is a welcome addition for new electric toothbrush users, or those with gum disease or sensitivity. One redeeming factor is that the 2 pin power adapter does support 100-240v, so you need only a plug adapter when travelling, not a voltage adapter too. Marginal improvements have been made, but accuracy should be better. I know many will be frustrated by this. Personally, the biggest disappointment of this iO is that it is not much quieter than the other Oral-B brushes. In their marketing, Oral-B kept bragging about a whole new motorized system that was revolutionary with micro vibrations. We thought, surely this will be less harsh and quieter than its cousins, but it still came in right at 70 dB in our tests, which is like a loud conversation. Brushing experienceExperience a breakthrough in cleaning and gum care with the dentist-inspired, revolutionary technology of the Oral-B iO Series. The Oral-B iO Series 7 Electric Toothbrush combines powerful, but gentle micro-vibrations with Oral-B’s dentist-inspired round brush head for a professional purifying clean every day that delivers 100% cleaner teeth and healthier gums*. Unlike the Oclean X Pro Elite, it is not a touchscreen. This is a good thing. You control it via the function buttons above and below. Combines the unique round brush head from Oral-B with gentle micro-vibrations for a fresh, clean mouthfeel and 100% healthier gums in one week Despite having used the iO9 since its launch a few years ago, I can’t categorically say what’s causing it. My suspicion is the colour display. I will often see it activated as a result of vibration or movement nearby. To my knowledge, other iO brushes have the same lithium-ion battery sealed inside, yet achieve up to 17 days.

INTERACTIVE DISPLAY signals vital information: including brushing modes and head replacement reminder, greets you as you power up & gives you a smile for a job well done Of course, all this talk of AI, gyro sensors, accelerometers and frictionless magnetic drives has an impact on the price tag – there simply isn’t a more expensive brushing experience out there. We took this into consideration and rather than focusing on the similarities between the two brushes (like pressure sensors and two-minute timers) we looked at what set them apart, focusing on the brushing modes, customisation, the limitations of the AI and overall charging. In just 1 week REMOVE 100% MORE PLAQUE and GET 3X HEALTHIER GUMS* switching to ORAL-B’s MOST ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY *vs a manual brush. For most, this is not an issue. But, if you have a small mouth or crowded teeth maneuvering the iO head around will feel a bit different and in a few instances pose more of a challenge. I would argue do you even need the iO Series at all. Don’t get me wrong, they are great. But, a basic model cleans just as well. If you and your partner can just make sure you are brushing for the correct time and the correct technique you could save yourself a lot of money. ReplyWhen using the app, the built-in 30-second pacing alerts are turned off. This is partly because the app has an on-screen timer you can follow instead. The circular magnetic charger is a little wider and deeper than your standard charger. It definitely looks better and fits the premium vibe well. From that point on, the app is identical to the one we tested with the Oral-B Genius X. Brushing coach Turn the iO7 on and the timer and pacer are activated. At 30 second intervals, the motor will momentarily pause. The sound and brushing sensation subsequently change. This is your cue to move to a new section of the mouth. This repeats 3 times. When 3 pauses of the motor occur, you’ve achieved the recommended minimum 2 minutes of brushing.
